Our Traffic Management Design 1 Course (TMD 1) is the perfect starting point for individuals looking to develop traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes in Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 environments; urban streets and low volume roads.

Entry Requirements: To enrol in our Traffic Management Design 1 Course, prospective learners must meet the following criteria: Completion of any of the following skill sets:
– RIISSS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads
– RIISSS00061 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for High Volume Roads
– RIISSS00062 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Motorways and Freeways
– At least 12 months experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace; and
– Providing evidence of relevant experience setting up at least 20 temporary traffic management types in at least four of the following design types:
– – pedestrian and cyclist controls
– –
construction sites
– –
lane closures
– –
shoulder closures
– –
night works
– –
use of portable traffic control devices
– –
motorways or freeways
– OR at least an AQF Level 6 qualification in a civil construction, traffic engineering or road design related field.

Training and Assessment: The Traffic Management Designer 1 (TMD 1) training and assessment will be carried out through a combination of theoretical learning and practical experience. The theoretical course will take three days to complete. Following the three theoretical days, students will need to successfully complete a practical assessment with a licenced traffic management company.

The practical (post-course) assessment requirements must be completed for declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 roads within 6 months of successfully completing the theoretical component. We offer all eligible students placement with Barleys Traffic Management.
