At Barleys Traffic Management, we understand that many of the most skilled and experienced professionals in our industry have learned their craft on the job. If you’ve been working as a Traffic Controller, Traffic Management Implementer, or Traffic Management Designer, but don’t yet hold a formal qualification under the new training framework, Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) could be your pathway to becoming certified.

We’re here to support you in turning your real-world experience into nationally recognised credentials — quickly, affordably, and without unnecessary training repetition.

What is RPL?
Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment-only process that acknowledges the skills, knowledge, and experience you’ve gained through past employment, projects, and practical work. Instead of sitting through training you already know, you can demonstrate your competency and earn your qualification by submitting a portfolio of evidence and completing a written assessment.

RPL Pathways Available
Through our RTO partners, we can support RPL applications for the following qualifications:

Traffic Controller (TC)
For individuals with experience managing Stop/Slow operations and traffic flows on a range of sites.

Traffic Management Implementer (TMI)
For those with experience setting out signage, implementing approved Traffic Management Plans (TMPs), and managing site safety and compliance.

Traffic Management Designer (TMD)
For experienced planners with a background in designing TMPs and Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS), including works on roads classified under Categories 1, 2 or 3.

Are You Eligible?
To be eligible you must be working in the field you wish to qualify in and hold the relevant legacy qualification.
