Traffic Controller (TC) and Traffic Management Implementer (TMI) Course Process

Classroom Training

Attend a nationally recognised course covering theory, safety standards, and practical demonstrations aligned with Austroads and state requirements.

Theory Assessment

Complete a written assessment to demonstrate your understanding of traffic control and traffic management principles.

On-Course Simulation (TC1 Only)

Participate in a supervised simulated exercise to apply stop/slow bat and PTCD control in a safe, controlled environment.

Practical Training Logbook

Log a minimum of 20 hours of supervised fieldwork (TC), or complete 3 live TMI setups (TMI) under real roadwork conditions.

Final Practical Assessment

Be observed by an Approved Training Provider (ATP) assessor on-site (or via video if needed) to verify competence.

Statement of Attainment (SoA)

Upon successful completion, receive a nationally recognised SoA and be eligible to work on declared road categories.
